Best CLARIS Water Filters for Jura (2026): Which Filter Do You Need?

The right CLARIS filter for your Jura in 2026 - the Smart 3-pack for most current models, Smart+ for the Z10, and CLARIS Blue for older Impressa machines.

Jura’s CLARIS water filters do two things: remove limescale minerals before they reach the boiler, and improve water taste by reducing chlorine and other compounds. The right filter depends on which Jura model you own. Using the wrong filter type either does not fit or does not integrate with your machine’s filter monitoring system.

1. CLARIS Smart 3-Pack - Best for Most Current Jura Models

The CLARIS Smart is the standard filter for current Jura home machines. It fits the E8, S8, ENA 4, ENA 8, D6, and E6 - essentially any Jura made in the last 5 years that uses the standard Smart filter slot.

Each CLARIS Smart filter lasts approximately 50 liters or 2 months of regular home use, whichever comes first. Jura’s filter monitoring system tracks usage and prompts you when replacement is due. The 3-pack covers roughly 6 months of use and brings the per-filter cost down compared to buying singles.

What CLARIS Smart does: The filter uses an ion exchange system to reduce calcium and magnesium before water reaches the boiler. This directly reduces scale buildup, extending the life of your machine. It also reduces chlorine and other taste-affecting compounds, which improves the flavor of your coffee.

How to install: Drop the filter into the water tank, push it down until it clicks. Go to machine settings, select “Install filter” or “CLARIS filter,” and follow the prompts. The machine primes the filter and resets its counter.

Important: Do not skip the installation prompt. If you drop in a new filter without going through the menu, the machine does not reset its counter and will prompt for replacement prematurely.

2. CLARIS Smart+ - For Z10, GIGA 6, and GIGA 10

The CLARIS Smart+ is an upgraded filter with enhanced filtration capacity. It is required for Jura’s premium machines - the Z10, GIGA 6, and GIGA 10. These machines have a larger water tank and higher daily usage, so the Smart+ is designed to handle that volume.

The Smart+ uses the same ion exchange technology but with a larger filter body and greater capacity than the standard Smart. It communicates with the machine’s intelligent water system to optimize the filtration rate based on your local water hardness - a more sophisticated integration than the basic Smart.

Do not use Smart where Smart+ is required. If your machine specifies CLARIS Smart+, the standard Smart either does not fit or will not integrate correctly with the filter monitoring system. Check your manual or the filter slot on your water tank.

Best for: Z10 owners who want the full intelligent water system integration, GIGA 6 and GIGA 10 for commercial-adjacent use where filter life matters.

3. CLARIS Blue - For Impressa and Older Jura Models

CLARIS Blue is the legacy filter format for older Jura machines, primarily the Impressa series. If you own a Jura made before approximately 2015, this is likely the filter your machine uses.

The Blue filter uses the same basic filtration principles - ion exchange to reduce hardness minerals, activated carbon to reduce chlorine - but in a different physical format that does not fit current Smart-slot machines.

How to identify if you need CLARIS Blue: Check your machine’s water tank. If it has a small round port at the bottom with a filter that pulls straight out (rather than the rectangular slot of current models), you need CLARIS Blue.

Best for: Impressa Z6, Impressa J9, Impressa F8, and other older Impressa models. If you own a newer machine, you need CLARIS Smart or Smart+ instead.

Should You Use a Filter at All?

Yes - with one exception. If your water is very soft (less than 4 dH hardness), Jura recommends not using a filter, as over-filtering soft water can remove beneficial minerals that affect espresso extraction quality.

For everyone else: use a filter. The CLARIS system is one of the best arguments for sticking with Jura’s own accessories - the filter monitoring is properly integrated with the machine, and limescale protection directly extends boiler life.

Water hardnessRecommendation
Very soft (0-4 dH)No filter - machine settings will guide you
Soft to medium (4-14 dH)CLARIS Smart or Smart+
Hard to very hard (14+ dH)CLARIS Smart or Smart+ - change more frequently

How to check your water hardness: Jura includes hardness test strips in the box. You can also check your local water utility’s water quality report online.

When to Replace

  • Your machine’s filter monitoring will notify you when replacement is due
  • Do not wait until the warning becomes urgent - replace at first notification
  • If the machine has been sitting unused for more than 8 weeks with a filter installed, replace before your next use
  • Filters left in place past their service life can harbor bacteria
