Jura is a Swiss company - but not all of its machines are manufactured in Switzerland. Here is where each part of the lineup is made and what that means for quality.

Where Jura Machines Are Manufactured

Jura operates two main production facilities:

Switzerland - Niederbuchsiten (Canton of Solothurn) The Swiss factory is Jura’s global headquarters and primary engineering site. It produces the flagship Z-series, the professional GIGA line, and the S-series. This is where Jura’s R&D team develops new brewing technology, and where final quality validation is carried out on every product line. The site employs around 1,000 people.

Portugal - Porto The Porto facility handles production of the mid-range E-series and ENA compact line. Components are sourced from suppliers in Germany, Italy, and Asia, with final assembly and quality control conducted in Portugal under the same standards applied at the Swiss plant.

The short answer: If you are buying a Z10, S8, or GIGA model, it is made in Switzerland. If you are buying an E8, E6, or ENA 4, it is made in Portugal to Swiss engineering standards.

Does the Manufacturing Location Affect Quality?

No. Jura applies the same quality control processes at both facilities. The machines use the same components, pass the same pressure and extraction tests, and carry the same two-year warranty regardless of where they are assembled.

The distinction between factories reflects production volume and specialization - not a quality tier. Jura’s quality reputation applies to the entire lineup.

Key Jura Technologies (Across All Models)

Regardless of where a Jura machine is made, all models share the same core proprietary systems:

  • Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) - Pulses water through grounds in short intervals to improve extraction consistency on short specialties like espresso and ristretto.
  • Aroma G3 Grinder - Conical burr grinder that runs at low RPM to preserve bean aroma and minimize heat transfer during grinding.
  • Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.) - Automatically detects a CLARIS filter cartridge in the tank and adjusts descaling reminders based on actual water hardness.
  • Fine Foam Technology - Froths milk in two chambers for consistent microfoam texture and temperature without manual technique.

Which Jura Should You Buy?

The manufacturing location (Switzerland vs. Portugal) should not factor into your buying decision - quality is consistent across both plants. The choice comes down to your budget, drink preferences, and how often you make milk drinks.
